ABDUL MALIK BELLO MOHAMMED
Abdul was born July, 2002 in Harlem, New York City into a Hausa family. His parents Zainab Umar and Bello Mohammed immigrated to the United States in the mid-90s, leaving their three children. They made a living as a homemaker and taxi driver, respectively. Three more children followed and were the first to attend and complete school.
A Harlem native, Abdul has been surrounded by black literary history and culture since childhood. He grew up in Broadway Housing Community’s Dorothy Day Apartment and was engrained in its values of supportive housing, art, and education.
He graduated from Harvard College in May 2024, obtaining his baccalaureate concentrating in Applied Mathematics. In Cambridge, he was a committed volunteer to service in Dorchester as a youth mentor and director.
A mathematician by practice and altruist by nature, Abdul values reconciling information with people’s reception. Writing has proven to be his most freeing outlet, and he engages with genres ranging from prose and screenwriting to songwriting.
